Notes from the Lovell Neighborhood Watch Meeting: April 26, 2006:
About 30 local area residents attended the meeting. The guest speaker, Sheriff Lloyd Skip Herrick, spoke about the wonderful deputies on the force. He assured the group that they would do all they can to keep the people of our town safe. He covered concerns of elderly and people living alone. He made everyone aware that drugs are the reason for most crimes. It was a very informative speech. The Sheriff answered many questions and concerns.
Sgt. Matt Baker reiterated how important it is to call in any and all information. Sometimes we may not think an incident is a big deal, but it is a piece of a puzzle to an investigating officer.
Deputy Tom Harriman had a lot of information to share. He, along with victim of a purse theft attempt, told how the victim showed a lot of courage. She was able to get her purse from the thief, and able to supply information that solved the case. He also gave an incident report from the log at the dispatch center. There are some ongoing cases being investigated, which we hope to hear more about in the future. Tom would like to speak to any groups that are interested; he has done a lot of work with the elderly regarding safety issues.
Sign placement was discussed, and we hope to soon have them installed on the town roads. There are now 5 signs left for associations and businesses to purchase. Please contact me if you are interested. Your business will be given a listing on this group's main page once your sign is displayed.
We still need zone captains for West and North Lovell.
The Webmaster gave information on accessing our web page, as well as the change over procedure for the pivot customers going to fairpoint.
We will have a booth at Lovell Old Home Days to pass out window decals and hand outs, Corille Bresette has volunteered her car to display banners on for the parade. We will have a marching crime dog named McGruff for the parade. Volunteers are needed to man the booth for hour intervals from 10 am to 3pm. Please call me if you would like more information.
Corille Bresette and Dawn Ferguson volunteered to help expand our notification system so you will see more posters and information in all sorts of places, all over town.
Lynn Sanborn gave a report on her successful project of notifying the people that live on private roads and associations. She has given them information on how to become a part of our group.
It was a longer than usual meeting, but we did cover a LOT. Thanks to all who help in every way. We are moving forward, have put the system to the test, and found it works. Remember to watch and communicate.
Thanks so much,
Roxanne Craig
