Notes from the Lovell Neighborhood Watch Meeting: September 27, 2006:
The meeting was VERY interesting! Sergeant Matthew Baker spoke about the many classes of crimes, what is a felony, and what is a misdemeanor. Criminal Offenses and Civil Violations were discussed. Information was given on why the police do what they do; why and when to speak to suspects, when exactly to make an arrest and why, what happens to the chain of custody of people, evidence, and case files. We learned about bail, parole and probation details, why Judges do what they do, and all the stuff you think you know about from TV Land.
Sgt. Tim Ontengco, and Deputy Tom Harriman reported on all the wonderful new resources available to Neighborhood Watch Groups.
Representatives from both towns attended the meeting: Bridgton is now up and running with their new watch group. See their web page and schedule. Fryeburg is in the planning stages of getting a watch group going. Talks are underway to maintain a large email list of all town's members so emergency incident reports are sent out to all. This would be very handy since criminals don't stop at a town line and turn their cars around.
If anyone has ideas for speakers and topics they want to cover at future meetings, please let me know. Don't miss the next meeting and the chance to see a real 12-15 foot tall marijuana plant. Get the information about harvesting times, and how the police bust illegal growers.
Warning: Keep an eye on your scrap metal and copper!
Thanks to all for keeping Lovell a safer place for all of us to call home.
