Notes from the Lovell Neighborhood Watch Meeting: August 22, 2007:

Welcome to Oxford County Sheriff Department's Sheriff Wayne J. Gallant, Deputy Willie Nelson, Sergeant Tim Ontengco, and Sergeant Matthew Baker. Sheriff Gallant would like to remind everyone that school is back in session, drive carefully. Be sure to call when you see or hear anything suspicious. He would rather find a raccoon in your trash can at night, instead of finding someone stealing your lawnmower.

Wayne Maglione of the Border Patrol based in Maine, presented information from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The use of the ACE Truck Manifest System at the Maine and Minnesota ports of entry was discussed, as well as other local issues.

Ken Roy and Bob Casiemero presented an historical and current update on The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. Mission: To secure United States borders and coastal boundaries against unlawful and unauthorized entry of all individuals, contraband, and foreign military. They are members of the Maine Chapter.

Kristine Gould of the Bridgton Post Office presented information on getting your passport, or renewing an expired one. She suggests that we get our passports now while there are no lines or long delays. If you wait, there will be a yearlong processing time in getting your passport. As of January first, you will need a passport to cross the Canadian border, even on a short trip with friends on a snowmobile. The U.S. Department of State page has more information. The documentation list, fees list, and the form you need with you are here. Put your zip code into the search here page for the location of passport acceptance facilities.

FREE Gun Locks are back and available at the Lovell Town Office.
Sergeant Matt Baker gave the Incidents and Updates Report. Of the 61 calls all summer, only 1 was related to a theft, at the Marina and Narrows Beach. There will be more information about this at the next meeting. Carol Craig reported that unknown persons attempted to start a resident's boat, on a trailer, at the town beach on August 11th at 1 AM. Several people complained about an unknown driver of a black SUV who insists on blasting music too loudly.

Thanks to Corille, Sheriff Gallant, and Sergeant Baker for participating in the Lovell Old Home Days parade for the Lovell Neighborhood Watch.

Thank you Melanie, for obtaining the VFW hall for our meeting while the Suncook School was under roof repair.

Please call Refreshment Committee Chairperson, Corille at 925-3462 if you would like to help out. We also need volunteers to be Call Captains of the Center Lovell and North Lovell areas. You would simply be a contact person between your neighbors and the tip line, in case someone doesn't want to make the call themselves. Melanie Farrington put a sign up for our meeting. Did you see it? Thanks Melanie!

Contact Forms may be printed and used anytime. There is also an Observation Notes Form that you can print out and save in case you see something to report. Call to share a ride to the next meeting. Thanks to everyone for helping to keep Lovell a safer place for everyone to call home.
