Notes from the Lovell Neighborhood Watch Meeting: January 17, 2007:

If you missed the meeting because of the cold, you missed an experience that would have warmed you up! Oxford County Sheriff Wayne J. Gallant was an energetic, receptive, and down to earth speaker. He held the attendees attention with facts, plans, and experiences. Many are still talking about the dog in the pharmacy. Brochures were given out and discussed about how to keep your home safe. Do not pass up any opportunity to hear Sheriff Gallant speak.
Some of the plans for the Oxford County Sheriff's Department:
... The County restructure of a "no boundary lines" system, with better communication with State Police, and local law enforcement agencies. The alternating month law enforcement agreement for Lovell is being improved by daily reports between the Sheriff's Office and the State Police. Citizens are welcome to report to both during any month. This will result in officers in various color uniforms canvassing an area immediately following a crime to optimize investigative ability. When one officer is able to get assistance from the closest fellow officer, instead of waiting for backup from his own department, this very large County becomes much smaller, and easier to serve and protect.
... The maximizing of manpower and resources through the use of "Task Forces." (Click here to watch the video)
... A switch to 4x4 vehicles will allow for quicker and safer response time in the winter months.
... The procurement of a police dog to assist an assigned officer.
... Information listed with this group for the public to attend South Paris Commissioners Meetings.

Sergeant Timothy Ontengco gave the incidents and updates report. Ms. Lawson is living in Norway. NO local children have reported any abuse by Gilbert Telford. All cases in Lovell are cleared; there are no crimes under investigation. Thank you for checking your properties after the reindeer yard ornament was stolen. That same night a sign at the Lovell Historical building was stolen. Since both incidents were on Route 5, it may have been the same car going through town that grabbed them both. A local town is having a baseball bat in a moving car meets mailbox problem. Please keep a pen and paper in your car to write down any plate numbers and information if you see something happening. Thanks!

Lt. Daley has been in the media a lot, catching the non-registered sex offenders in the County. The Lovell Selectmen are developing a regulation for where sex offenders will be allowed to live in town.

Free copies of the 206 page book from FEMA: Are You Ready? An In-depth Guide to Citizen Preparedness were given out. Pick up one at the next meeting, or call FEMA from our resource page. Free online FEMA classes were discussed. Town and county emergency information will be added to our website soon.

New contact forms were presented to the group and may be printed here online and be used to email, mail, or bring to the next meeting. These forms may be used to contact various people or groups by simply checking boxes. If you have a question, request, suggestion, or simply want to pass a thought along, we want to hear from you. Please Email Webmaster if you have any questions.

CoffeeCup.com is giving away free Educational Software Packages to schools.

Thanks for helping to keep Lovell a safer place for everyone to call home.
