Next Lovell Neighborhood Watch Meeting
Wednesday, August 22, 2007
6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
(Location to be announced)

Notes from the Lovell Neighborhood Watch Meeting: June 20, 2007:

Welcome to Oxford County Sheriff Department's Deputy "Chip" George T. Cayer who joined us for the meeting, and the returning; Deputy Thomas Harriman, Sheriff Wayne J. Gallant, Chief Deputy Darrell "Dane" Tripp, and Sergeant Matthew Baker. The topic this month was presented by Deputy Thomas Harriman on "Identity Theft." There is so much information on this topic that we can't cover it all here. We can give you starting points to research how to keep yourself from becoming a victim of identity theft. The National Crime Prevention Council has Identity Theft and Phishing information. The FBI has New E-Scams & Warnings and the Identity Theft Crime Report. You may call 1-800-567-8688 to remove your name from preapproved credit card mailings. Be sure to shred, compost, burn, do anything to papers with your information on them, but do not throw them into the trash whole. Don't give your Social Security number to anyone and never carry your card. Keep just one credit card with you, and have a photocopy of both sides of everything in your wallet safe at home. If you want to know if an offer is a scam or not, call the toll free 1-877-353-3771 hotline for the Southern Maine Agency on Aging. From the Maine Attorney General site, get rid of telemarketers with the Do Not Call List.

FREE Gun Locks are available at the Lovell Town Office. There is no sign up, no identification, no registration, no conversation needed. Just walk in for whatever reason, pick up what you need, and put them in your pocket. Why? Because if you choose to use a gun lock, they are available for free to ALL residents. No matter what reason you don't want anyone to know your business, you still have the option of getting and using a free gun lock with the compliments and thanks of the Oxford County Sheriff Department.

Sergeant Matt Baker gave the Incidents and Updates Report. There was a reminder to get your passport now. See our April Newsletter. If you wait until next year, you could have a one year processing wait!

Thanks again to Corille for taking over as Refreshment Committee Chairperson. Please call her at 925-3462 if you would like to help out. We also need volunteers to be Call Captains of the Center Lovell and North Lovell areas. You would simply be a contact person between your neighbors and the tip line, in case someone doesn't want to make the call themselves. Melanie Farrington put a sign up for our meeting. Did you see it? Thanks Melanie!

Contact Forms may be printed and used anytime. There is also a new Observation Notes Form that you can print out and save in case you ever see something to report. Call to share a ride to the next meeting. Thanks to everyone for helping to keep Lovell a safer place for everyone to call home.
