March 30, 2007 Oxford County Sheriff's Office TRIAD SCAM ALERT! We have received several calls with in the past week from residents stating that they have been receiving calls from an organization that is soliciting for money for the Portland Fire Department and they are asking for peoples social security numbers and bank account numbers. Residents be aware that this is a scam. The Bridgton News contacted the Sheriff's Office today to confirm that someone called them to verify authenticity of this organization. They were contacted by the President of the Professional Firefighter's Association in Portland and he said that they did subcontract a business called East Coast Marketing Group to contact Portland residents ONLY to solicit for their hockey program earlier this year but they did not ask for bank, credit card or social security information. The people calling now for the Portland Fire Department are not affiliated with the Portland Fire Department. Red Flags: Response: Submitted By: Next Lovell Neighborhood Watch Meeting | |
