Notes from the Lovell Neighborhood Watch Meeting: March 21, 2007:

Thank You Karo! Police dog Caro was able to bring Maine State Police Trooper Adam Fillebrown to the meeting. The son of Danish police dogs, Caro was trained overseas and in Maine, in both tracking and drug enforcement. Meeting attendees were amazed at his story, beauty, intelligence, and abilities. Caro is trained to bite when he catches his prey after a chase. Any creature who considers this his only reward for a job well done, may make a criminal want to give up immediately knowing that Caro is working in the Southern Oxford County area. Despite his affectionate nickname of "Psycho" at the training center, we were able to play with him while the humans were speaking. Caro slid easily into work mode when Deputy Brian Landis put on the "bite sleeve" and was attacked. Click here to see photos from the meeting.

Oxford County Sheriff Wayne J. Gallant, and Maine State Police's Sergeant Donald Shead, discussed the many programs being instituted and worked on as collaborative efforts. The Saco River, Fryeburg Fair, drunk driving and speeding details, and more were discussed. All State Police cars will have online ability by the summer. This will save money and time in accomplishing required duties. Note: If an unmarked police car wants you to pull over, you may have him follow you to a well populated and lighted area before stopping your car. A blue light, or a blue or tan shirt doesn't make a law enforcement officer. It is always better to be safe, and be sure.

Detective, Lt. Hart Daley returned to give us an update on the Sex Offenders Registry. Much has been done since November. As promised, he has reached 100% compliance in appropriate registration and information on all "lifetime" and "ten year" registrant sex offenders. Two men have fled the state, looking for other living situations where law enforcement is not as determined as ours are. There are no registered sex offenders in Lovell. Photos and information on other local town registrants were passed around for those who do not have online access to the Maine Sex Offender Registry.

Channel 13, WGME in Portland is running the Fugitive File. If you see any of these wanted criminals, do not approach them. Call 911, and get license plate information if possible.

Sergeant Matt Baker gave the incidents and updates report. There are no new cases in Lovell. Please check your home alarm systems and be sure they do not go off accidently. Be careful in the Conway area, there are counterfeit bills of every denomination floating around. Read: How To Tell If It's Counterfeit.

Thanks to Corielle for the great cookies and snacks! Reminder: Contact Forms may be printed here online and used anytime. Call to share a ride to the next meeting. Thanks to everyone for helping to keep Lovell a safer place for everyone to call home.

Oxford County Sheriff's Note
March 30, 2007
Oxford County Sheriff's Office TRIAD SCAM ALERT!

We have received several calls with in the past week from residents stating that they have been receiving calls from an organization that is soliciting for money for the Portland Fire Department and they are asking for peoples social security numbers and bank account numbers.
Residents be aware that this is a scam.
The Bridgton News contacted the Sheriff's Office today to confirm that someone called them to verify authenticity of this organization. They were contacted by the President of the Professional Firefighter's Association in Portland and he said that they did subcontract a business called East Coast Marketing Group to contact Portland residents ONLY to solicit for their hockey program earlier this year but they did not ask for bank, credit card or social security information. The people calling now for the Portland Fire Department are not affiliated with the Portland Fire Department.

Red Flags:
Caller asks for bank, checking, savings numbers-this is a scam!
If the organization is geographically centered, ask why they are calling you in another county or a distance from the organization.

Response:
If you are interested in making a donation instruct the caller to send you all the information and you will make a decision after reading it and make sure you let them know that you will be making a donation directly to the particular organization not to a "company that is subcontracting" for solicitation.
Better yet, SAY NO and hang up!!
