Next Lovell Neighborhood Watch Meeting
Wednesday, June 20, 2007
6:30 pm to 8:00 pm

Notes from the Lovell Neighborhood Watch Meeting: May 23, 2007:

Welcome to Maine State Police Trooper Kristie Morrison who joined us for the meeting. The topic this month was "Target Hardening and Making Your Home A Safer Place" presented by the Oxford County Sheriff Department's Sergeant Ontengo, Sergeant Baker, and Deputy Harriman. Take the National Neighborhood Watch Programs test and see if you pass: Home Security Inspection Checklist. Read the booklet: Preventing Burglaries - How to Protect Your Home. Another printout you may be interested in is the National Crime Prevention Council: Neighborhood Checkup Survey.
As a part of our ongoing series on Real World vs TV Land, we discussed what it really feels like to be hit with a taser gun. A real Spike Mat used in car chases was shown, opened, touched, and discussed. The general consensus was that we were all glad we don't have to touch that thing, or work with it, or pull on that cord to whip the unit out of the road towards us, before the next car comes along.

Sergeant Matt Baker gave the Incidents and Updates Report. There are no new cases in Lovell. Don't miss the June meeting where Deputy Tom Harriman will present the topic "Identity Theft." There will be no July meeting.

Thanks to Corille for taking over as Refreshment Committee Chairperson. Please call her at 925-3462 if you would like to help out. We also need volunteers to be Call Captains of the Center Lovell and North Lovell areas. You would simply be a contact person between your neighbors and the tip line, in case someone doesn't want to make the call themselves.

Melanie Farrington reported that Valley Pride Day was a great success and several new folks took part in the program. The only odd thing found on clean up day was a pair of handcuffs on Shave Hill. That was explained by Sergeant Baker. I guess we are a very observant community. Melanie also reported that $500. was raised by the VFW at the public dinner we told you about in the last meeting reminder note. The money is being used for the Renovation Fund.

Reminder: Contact Forms may be printed here online and used anytime. Please ask me about a Phone Tree form we will begin filling out to use only in case of emergency. Is anyone interested in representing this group at Lovell Old Home Days and handing out flyers? Thanks! Call to share a ride to the next meeting. Thanks to everyone for helping to keep Lovell a safer place for everyone to call home.

Deputies promoted in Oxford County

June 4, 2007
By Leslie Dixon , Staff Writer

PARIS - A ceremony was held last week to announce promotions of Brian T. Landis and Justin M. Brown to the rank of corporal with the Oxford County Sheriff's Department.

Cpls. Brown and Landis recently completed the interview and testing process for the position.

"They have shown excellent leadership abilities and a commitment to the mission statement and goals set by this agency," Sheriff Wayne Gallant said. "We are confident in their abilities to assume the new role and responsibilities associated with being a corporal with the sheriff's office."

Brown became a full-time deputy in 2000 and Landis in 2003. Prior to joining the sheriff's department, Landis was an officer for Paris.

The department's newest deputy, George T. Cayer, was also introduced at the ceremony.

"Deputy Cayer has over 20 years full-time law enforcement career and we are extremely pleased to have such an experienced deputy join our ranks," Gallant said.
