Notes from the Lovell Neighborhood Watch Meeting: October 20, 2010

The watch meeting proved quite interesting. It was led by Lt. Walter Grzyb of the Maine State Police; there was a full night of discussion and great audience participation.

There was a lengthy discussion about people posing as officers and how we protect ourselves.
It is best to drive to a well lit place with people around, which is not easy in this part of the country.
The bottom line is to be sure the officer that pulls you over is real, see his identification, and use your cell phone if necessary.

Another subject well covered was license plates. We have lobster, chickadee, breast cancer, university, agriculture and on and on… it seems there are 20 plus kinds of Maine license plates. We got onto the subject in regards to giving tips and that dispatch always asks for the plate information.

The State Police had 22 calls and the Sheriffs had 24 calls over the past month for Lovell.

Mark the calendar for March 26, we will be putting on a free dinner for neighbors to meet neighbors, and our officers. More people need to know how the neighborhood watch works. Details to follow.

Future meetings will be featuring such things as Tr. Welch presenting reconstruction; also Lt. Grzyb has file cabinets full of interesting traffic stop video. He also has another show pertaining to him solving the Perry murder to show us. (This video is also on the main page of our group's website.) There is no specific schedule for these as it depends on the officers schedules and any emergency they may be called to.

Remember to get in touch with Deb (See the contact information on our web page.) about the book swap for shut-ins.

A word to the wise from Lt. Grzyb- we are approaching a peak of break in season... watch and report please!

The next meeting is November 17th. Be sure not to miss it, that is the final meeting of 2010.
Keep in touch that is what makes this group work!
